Happy Friday, Bookstagrammers! As I contemplate my 2020 vision board and the upcoming party, I reflect on falling short in previous years. I am more determined than ever to meet my bookish goals.

In planning to ensure successful completion of my 220 titles in 2020 reading goal (the kicker is they must all be by diverse authors and with POC characters), I have done some math as well as enlisted the help of others. The total divided by 12 months will put me right at 18.33 books a month. I don’t know about you, but I have a feeling I may either a) run out of book ideas or b) loose motivation. My strategy is signing up for many bookish challenges and engaging in buddy reads to keep things interesting in selections and hold me accountable. Each month, I will try to select one book from each challenge, except February (that gets a whole new set of challenges). Pictured above are my reading selections to start the week:

Reading diverse this year is not for school but for personal edification to love myself more. I don’t want to shy away from difficult topics of race. I want to embrace blackness in all its beautiful shades. I want to learn more about the cultures of my Filipino, Vietnamese, Chinese, Nigerian, Thai, Fiji, Dominican, and Singaporean friends that I am ashamed to admit, I am ignorant of. I want to do all this through the lens of literature.

Please tag me on any other book challenges and inbox me if you’re interested in a buddy read!
