🎉 Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day 🎉 ⠀ What better way to celebrate his legacy than with reading his speeches and writings! ⠀ 📚 Now Reading 📚 I Have a Dream: Writings and Speeches That Changed the World by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ⠀ Today I would also like to reflect on a few highlights from books I’ve read this month, but haven’t posted an individual review: ⠀ 📚 A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy (4🌟) Family drama with magic and a duel for the throne that had me on my toes, every page! ⠀ ⠀ 📚 A Dream So Dark by L.L. • πŸ“š Now Reading πŸ“š β € Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert β € Synopsis: Chloe…
    on January 18, 2020 at 11:46 pm

📚 Now Reading 📚 ⠀ Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert ⠀ Synopsis: Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items? * Enjoy a drunken night out. * Ride a motorcycle. * Go camping. * Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex. * Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage. * And… do something bad. But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job. Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit. But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior… ⠀ 📚I was craving some romance, so after a pill in my stories, I embarked on this bookish journey. So far I am loving the humor and usually I find British humor kind of dry that I can only appreciate in film. While today is a busy day with baby showers and seeing a play, I hope to finish reading this sometime late tomorrow. Have you read this yet? ⠀ 💋 xoxo, Kat ⠀ P.S. Now it is time for the obligatory hashtag rant! 😃Thanks for checking out this post! I ❤️ #diversespines , hear me roar 🐯 ! #10books10decades 📚 My Picks ⠀ I am participating in another @Reggiereads challenge! With this I aim to read the classics from ten decades with the added personal challenge of reading only diverse books. @zora canon provided some much needed inspiration! Curating this list was a struggle with my book buying ban as I own few classics and even fewer books by POC on my bookshelf 😅! So yesterday I headed to my local used bookstore with six totes of books to trade for “new to me” titles! I was pleasantly surprised by their selection, prices, and trade value! Shop small, y’all!😊 ⠀ Here’s a breakdown of my TBR: ⠀ 📚 1840s- Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass (1845) ⠀ 📚 1850s-Our Nig: Sketches from the Life of a Free Black by Harriet E. Wilson (1859) ⠀ 📚 1900s-Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington (1901) ⠀ 📚 1930s-Mules and Men by Zora Neale Hurston (1935) ⠀ 📚 1940s-Dust Tracks on a Road: An Autobiography by Zora Neale Hurston (1943) ⠀ 📚 1970s-Revolutionary Suicide by Huey P. Newton (1973) ⠀ 📚 1980s-Assata: An Autobiography by Assata Shakur (1988) ⠀ 📚 1990s-Paradise by Toni Morrison (1997) ⠀ 📚 2000s/1920s -Every Tongue Got to Confess by Zora Neale Hurston (2002) ⠀ 📚 2010s-Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward (2011) ⠀ This will be a first time read for all of these! I am excited to get started! Oh, and bonus read (not pictured b/c I traded it), Kindred by Octavia E. Butler (1979), I read earlier this month! Are you participating in this challenge? Perhaps you have some backlist titles that could use the love or need to rotate your bookshelf!😊 ⠀ 💋 xoxo, Kat P.S. Now it is time for the obligatory hashtag rant! 😃Thanks for checking out this post! #2booksunder50reviews 📚 My Picks ⠀ @Reggiereads challenged everyone to read and review two books published in 2018 or earlier with less than 50 reviews on Goodreads! I love discovering jewels; and this challenge will help me to meet my 220 book goal for the year! 😊 ⠀ I am sharing my picks now so that you all can also show them some love! 💕 ⠀ 📚 CHILDish: Stories from the life of a young Black girl by KishaLynn Moore Elliott ⠀ 📚 Reclaiming The Soul: A Black girl’s struggle to find her African self by Rosie Motene ⠀ *I will snapshot the synopsis of these two titles in my stories and also continue to share #2booksunder50reviews nominees as I find them. ⠀ Do you plan to participate in this challenge? If so, what are some of your nominees? ⠀ 💋 xoxo, Kat ⠀ P.S. Now it is time for the obligatory hashtag rant! 😃Thanks for checking out this post! I ❤️ #diversereads ! Have you ever read a great romance novel only to reflect later on the it’s merits in comparison to your life? 🤔 Then you get all kinds of new ideas !💡 Knowing full well it could spice up your love life if you could somehow recreate all the happenings of said book? 😄😃😀☺️🙂😏 No? 😟 Just me? 😒 Well… I successfully recreated that kiss from Twilight… except I’m not a teenager, he didn’t sneak through the window, and you know…. wasn’t a vampire.😏 But hey, I tried! In my head it was the same, hesitation and all! 😂🤣 ⠀ I know I am not the only one to give this serious thought! ⠀ It’s been dreadful lately with the weather and I think a romance would be a great “pick me up”! Share your favorite novel and inspirational scene below! I’m curious! ⠀ ⠀ 💋 xoxo, Kat P.S. Now it is time for the obligatory hashtag rant! 😃Thanks for checking out this post! I ❤️ #diversereads !
